EASTON - Michael Pietroski is the guy that makes it all happen at Stonehill College. Pietroski is the
director of the media technology department and ensures that students get their money’s worth in
regard to technology on campus. He and his team of mostly college students are the people that make
sure that students get their A+ education at Stonehill College by making sure that the school’s
equipment is up and running at all times on any given day and hour.

“I love what I do and I hope that I have impacted my co-worker’s lives in some way.”
Pietroski’s background started off by him learning about A/V while attending Cape Cod Regional
Technical High School. One of his teachers told him that he should stick with media and he would go
places. Pietroski didn’t do so well in woodshop class but he did have a skill for Audio/Video. Pietroski
studied a vocation in Cape Cod Regional Technical High School, he studied Audio-Visual electronics
from 1975 until 1977. He also did general studies in Dennis Yarmouth Regional High School from
1973 until 1975.
After he graduated from high school, Pietroski became involved in his community. He became the
chairman of Mashpee Cable Commission from 1985 to 1991, where he planned and designed for new
cable systems for the town. He also hired and appointed an advisor for the committee. Before Pietroski
came into the picture, the town of Mashpee was the only town in Cape Cod without any cable.
Pietroski then worked as the technology assistant to the secretary of education in Boston from May
1995 to August of the same year. He was also hired as the first A/V Technician of the Mashpee school
system and he was in charge of designing a new department in a growing and developing town. There
he handled all special events for the school’s system and the town where he also produced a weekly
news program. He also established the first student high school section in the world for the Society
Motion picture and Television Engineers group. Before Pietroski was hired by the previous President
of Stonehill College he worked as the video director of the athletic department where he videotaped all
home & away games and special events. Planned the video equipment for the department and changed
the filming format for the Division 3 football conference, and also prepared footage for NESN channel.
Pietroski has been working for Stonehill College for 21 years now, though before accepting to come
and work for Stonehill College, he had no idea that the college existed.

“I never even knew Stonehill existed.” said Pietroski.
Pietroski was told about Stonehill College by the previous Stonehill president, Reverend Bartley
MacPhaidin who asked him to come visit the college to see how he liked it and that he could have a
job here. At first, Pietroski thought he was joking when the President MacPhaidin told him about the
job, but it wasn’t until weeks later when he received a call from MacPhaidin to come visit the campus
that he realized that MacPhaidin wasn’t joking about the job offer. Pietroski was hired to make major
reconstructing of the current department of Media Services. He reconstructed an entire department
from Media Services to Department of Media/Videography, improved delivery of equipment and
services to the faculty and students. He also implemented technologies to be integrated into the
classrooms and halls, computers, audio, video, and screening facilities, giving students, faculty and
outside groups full access to various multimedia.
One of the many things that Pietroski does around campus is making sure that everything on campus
is working and updated. There have been some tough times, said Pietroski, but he tries his best to do
his part. Part of the job, he said, was that everything needs to be in good working shape and be
reliable. He also maintains a good budget for the department. Pietroski lives by the Tech motto:
Learn by doing. He also teaches students how to develop networking. His hopes are that he makes an
impact on students. He is absolutely glad that he works here for the school. The Media Technology
team’s opinions about Pietroski was nothing but compliments towards him. One of the managers for
Media Tech, Griffin Lyons, said that Pietroski is a chill guy that really cares for his team and that he
makes sure student employees are taking care of their studies before work.
One of the things that Pietroski and his team might have covered in the future, is keeping up
with new technology and how they are staying up to date on the latest tech.
